That is what makes the renewed attention around Bohlale Mphahlele worth examining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first version of her story belongs to 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mphahlele was 16, a Grade 11 student in Limpopo, when she developed what became known as the Alerting Earpiece. It was designed to look like an ordinary piece of jewelry while functioning as a discreet emergency device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The idea was born from a problem that was anything but technological: violence against women and children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The prototype was designed to allow a wearer to trigger an alert without having to reach for a phone. Its proposed functions included sending an emergency notification and location to selected contacts and capturing an image. Six years later, Mphahlele is no longer the teenager standing beside her prototype.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She is 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2026, she has again been speaking publicly about the invention and the problem that inspired it, including an appearance connected to France 24. She has also established Mphahlele Alerts<\/p>\n\n\n\n
and continued her studies in Information Technology.The distinction matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
