A high-level meeting between Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Clare Akamanzi has sparked fresh conversation about the future of basketball in Uganda.

One proposal reportedly discussed was the launch of an NBA Junior League for secondary schools. If implemented, the program could give thousands of students access to structured coaching, organized competition and exposure to professional basketball systems.

Basketball’s growing popularity across Africa is also creating new possibilities for the sport. Platforms such as the Basketball Africa League have inspired.

For Uganda, partnerships with international basketball organizations could also create opportunities beyond playing, from sports media and event management to youth development and the broader sports economy.
