WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump honors Messi and teammates after historic MLS Cup win.
Lionel Messi visited the White House on 5 March 2026 with his Inter Miami CF teammates Luis Suárez, Rodrigo De Paul, Federico Martínez, and Sergio Busquets, celebrating the club’s first-ever Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup championship.
Messi, who captained the team and was named league MVP, was the centerpiece of the visit.
President Donald Trump welcomed the squad, praised their achievement, and received gifts from the players, including a pink Inter Miami soccer ball from Messi and team jerseys.
The ceremony had its lighthearted moments. Trump made a playful reference to Cristiano Ronaldo, which brought smiles from Messi and his teammates. Suárez and De Paul also joked around during photo ops, showing the camaraderie that helped fuel their championship run.
