During this holy month of Ramadan, Nigerian Afrobeats star Asake became the center of social media buzz after a video showed him attempting to touch the revered Black Stone at the Kaaba in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
The footage shows Asake navigating a dense crowd of pilgrims performing tawaf, the ritual of circling the Kaaba seven times. People around him lifted him slightly to help him reach the stone, but the sheer volume of worshippers made it nearly impossible.
The Black Stone, or Hajar al‑Aswad, is a small, dark rock set into the eastern corner of the Kaaba and framed in silver. It holds deep spiritual significance for Muslims, as tradition holds it was sent from heaven and touched by the Prophet Muhammad.
Pilgrims strive to touch or kiss it during tawaf as an act of devotion, believing it brings blessings and spiritual reward. When reaching it directly isn’t possible, worshippers simply gesture toward it while continuing their circuit.
