On March 15, 2026, Paul Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame attended the final match of the Rwanda Challenger 100 at the IPRC-Kigali Ecology Tennis Club in Kigali.

The tournament, now in its third edition, is part of the ATP Challenger Tour, the level just below the main ATP Tour. It brings professional players from around the world to compete for ranking points and prize money, while also giving local players exposure to higher-level competition.

In the final, Argentina’s Marco Trungelliti defeated Italy’s Marco Cecchinato in three sets, 4–6, 6–0, 6–3, to claim the title. President Kagame and the First Lady were present for the ceremony and congratulated the winner after the match.

The Rwanda Challenger has grown steadily since its inaugural edition in 2024 and is part of a wider effort to place Rwanda on the map for international sports events. It is also one of the tournaments that make up the African Tennis Tour, which includes other competitions in the region.

President Kagame is known to be a recreational tennis player and fan of the sport, though he is not a professional athlete. His attendance at the final reflects his personal interest in tennis and Rwanda’s engagement with international sporting events.

The tournament continues to provide opportunities for Rwandan and regional players to compete with international professionals, while also attracting attention from global tennis followers. The event this year drew players ranked from roughly top 50 to 200 in the world, showcasing high-level competition for local audiences.

With the 2026 edition complete, Rwanda has now successfully hosted the tournament three years in a row, maintaining its place in the professional tennis circuit and continuing to attract international players and visitors to Kigali.
