During a March 8, 2026 event in Bondo, Siaya County, President William Ruto warned Kenyan youth against being exploited by politicians. Addressing attendees at a digital hub and jobs summit, he urged them not to serve as goons, bloggers, or political foot soldiers advancing partisan agendas.

Ruto highlighted that over the years, young people have often been mobilized into disruptive roles during political campaigns, harming both their personal growth and broader societal stability. He stressed that youth should prioritize constructive engagement, skill development, and economic independence over partisan politics.

The president linked his call to government programmes designed to support youth, including digital and ICT hubs, labour export opportunities, and affordable housing initiatives. He emphasized that these initiatives provide tangible pathways for young people to achieve independence rather than being drawn into harmful political roles.

Ruto’s remarks come amid heightened attention to the political engagement of Kenyan youth, particularly their participation in electoral campaigns and online activism. He reiterated that young people have the potential to contribute positively to national development if they focus on skills, employment, and civic responsibility.
